Maitreya Buddha is a bodhisattva who is regarded as the future Buddha of this world in all schools of Buddhism, prophesied to become Maitreya Buddha. It is said that his birth will take place in city of Ketumati ruled by chakravarti King Sankha. At that time the human beings will live for 80000 years. It is said that Shakyamuni Buddha before leaving Tusita heaven announced that Maitreya would be his successar.

Maitreya Mantra taught in the Tibetan tradition is:

"Oṃ aḥ maitri sarva siddhi huṃ"
